Interior Design Case Study: Rambler to Show-Stopper

Our client’s original intention for this outdated rambler was to renovate and sell, but they fell in love with the home and its location and decided to make it their own. J&L was enlisted to assist their builder in adding modern functionality and architectural interest, while keeping the integrity of the original home. They were willing to take risks and the results are stunning.
Construction

You can hardly believe this simple rambler was transformed into such special living. Soaring ceilings and skylights were added to make the home feel modern, open, and to let in as much natural light as possible. The architect used exposed beams and cables to assist in the new ceiling support while adding a gorgeous design element.
Family Room

The end result is a beautiful comfortable home that allows our clients to sit back, relax and enjoy. The family room incorporated a floor to ceiling stacked stone fireplace surround with a linear gas insert. Keeping with the sleek, transitional styling, furnishings were selected with straight lines and minimal curves. Pops of purple in the ottomans, art, and accent pillows gives the space a regal touch.
Dining Room

Drawing inspiration from the stone fireplace, a neutral wall color was chosen for the dining room. Elements like simple gray drape panels and geometric patterned chairs created a beautiful modern dining space. Built-in cabinetry with lead mullion detailing on each side of the fireplace provides ample storage and display space. By using benches, side chairs and end chairs, we were able to provide a plethora of seating options to be used for varying number of guests.
Kitchen

The clients love to entertain while cooking so ample seating in the kitchen was a must; the island and peninsula created a place for everyone. White wall cabinets with a java island complemented by white marble countertops, provided the sleek modern kitchen any cook would love to have. The stone and glass backsplash added just a touch of warmth to the space.
Master Bathroom

A serene master bathroom created an oasis for these busy homeowners. We created a beautiful “spa” like atmosphere by incorporating a free-standing tub, large glass enclosed shower and expansive mirrors over the vanities. The sconces were mounted through the glass for additional light reflection. The natural stone tile in soft neutral colors created a nice calming result. The frosted glass provides just enough privacy while still allowing natural light in the more private areas.
